"Success is how high you bounce after you hit bottom."
Just for some fun, let's compare old and new computing technology--off-line storage. Punched paper tape and USB sticks.
Punched paper tape required 1 inch to contain 10 bytes. Today, it is no trouble to purchase a USB stick with 4 Gigabytes (4,000,000,000).
That would equate to 400,000,000 inches or 33,333,333 feet. That is 6,313 miles of paper tape. A good paper tape reader could read 200 bytes/sec
which means that it would take 5,555 hrs or 231 days to read 4GB. The best paper tape punch that I remember buzzed along at 60 bytes/sec.
We have come a long, long way and we still think everything is too slow.

An idea for you who have battery powered smoke alarms: change the battery when the smoke alarm tells you to. It tells you with a very
annoying beep which always seems to start in the middle of the night. I have been doing this over the last 5+ years and have found that
a battery typically lasts well over a year (the last one I replaced lasted 21 months). I have 15+ smoke alarms of 2 different brands and
the results are consistent. If you have the same results, can you imagine how we can significantly reduce the number of batteries we put
into our landfills? 11/22/10.
